Description
„Far down in the forest, where the warm sun and the fresh air made a sweet resting-place, grew a pretty little fir-tree; and yet it was not happy, it wished so much to be tall like its companions– the
pines and firs which grew around it. The sun shone, and the soft air fluttered its leaves, and the little peasant children passed by, prattling merrily, but the fir-tree heeded them not.“
This is how the fairy tale "The Fir Tree", which was first published on the 21. of December 1844, begins. In the tale, we follow a newly planted fir tree which can not grow fast enough and become an adult.
The fir tree has no time to immerse itself in the surroundings and the things happening around it. Life just passes by. It will be felled, decorated and placed in the upscale living room on the farm. When Christmas is over it will be stripped of gold and glitter and placed in the loft.
