Surface treatment

All metal is surface treated. Silver jewelery from Nordahl Andersen is rhodium-plated, which means that the jewelery gets a very thin layer of white rhodium on the surface. Silver jewelery can also be oxidized (here they become black) or gilded.

Rhodinized silver differs from ordinary silver by being surface treated. The surface treatment gives the silver a glossy and shiny surface and helps to prevent the silver from tarnishing, i.e. that it becomes yellowish or brownish over time.
