This charming gold-plated ballerina ornament from Nordahl Andersen is both an original paper cut-out by H.C. Andersen and a character from the fairy tale *The Steadfast Tin Soldier*.

H.C. Andersen never knew his motifs in advance, but improvised with scissors and paper whilst sitting and telling his fairy tales. The beautiful Ballerina appears in many of H.C. Andersen’s paper cut-outs.

In the fairy tale, the Brave Tin Soldier falls in love with the beautiful Ballerina, who lives in the paper castle.
