Christmas heart medium - braided heart gold-plated

This woven Christmas heart is believed to be the world’s first and was cut out and woven by Hans Christian Andersen. It is not known for certain whether it was intended as a Christmas decoration to hang on the Christmas tree, as it had no loop. It is made from two strips of yellow and green paper. The Christmas heart measures 10 cm x 10 cm and was made in the 1860s. One source states that it was made in 1862 and that it was given as a present to H.C. Ørsted’s youngest daughter, Mathilde.

It was not until the 1870s that woven Christmas hearts appeared for hanging on the Christmas tree.
